It's probably the most famous native white grape in the ETNA region. The story said that has been selected by the local winegrowers from the city of Viagrande.
In the past it has been cultivated in the east side of Etna where Nerello Mascalese couldn't grow due to the altitude, normally above 1.000 meters. This is one of the main reason why the appellation of "superiore" is only applied within the Milo's municipality (900-1100 asl).
