Only yesterday after the end of the intense competition in Butrio, Vini Buoni d’Italia released the full list of Crown labels (Tutte le Corone) 2013 and Golden Star, edited by Mr Mario Busso and Mr Luigi Cremona .
Our team is very pleased to announce that two Benanti labels are among the laureates as well. Rosso di Verzella Etna DOC 2009 has won La Corona 2013 of Vini Buoni d’Italia and Pietramarina Etna Bianco Superiore DOC 2008 nearly made it to the top, winning the second it rank premium – Golden Star.
Rosso di Verzella is blended red wine, true representative of the indigenous Etna grapes, with a composition of 80% Nerello Mascalese and 20% Nerello Cappuccio. Grapes are cultivated in the countryside of Verzella on the northern side of the volcanic giant at the altitude of 700m asl.
The age of the vineyards is approximately 40 years. After malolactic fermentation, the wine matures in small casks (225 liters) for about 8-10 months and follows a refinement in bottles for several months.
Many reviews were done on Verzella over the years. The commonalities between all them agree on its ruby red colour, ethereal, intense taste with hints of vanilla and ripe fruit. The taste is elegant, harmonic and remarkably persistent.
Verzella 2009 is also available for our international friends all over the world. Benanti Winery is currently exporting to more 30 countries in the world. If you are interested in acquiring a Crown bottle you can email our team at benanti@vinicolabenanti.it and inquire about our distribution channel in your area.
Also prepare yourself with some excellent quality mature cheese and a few steaks for perfect accompaniment.
